Houthi vs. Red Sea shipping + coalition response
Since November 2023, Houthi forces in Yemen have launched more than 100 anti-ship attacks against commercial shipping and naval units in the Red Sea, the Bab-el-Mandeb and the Gulf of Aden — in "solidarity with Hamas". This has forced a substantial share of global container shipping to reroute around the Cape of Good Hope (~12 extra days + 20% added cost on the Europe–Asia route).
