Operating principle

The F-16V Block 70/72 (Greenville, South Carolina production line) is the most modern F-16 variant ever built. It carries the Northrop Grumman AN/APG-83 SABR AESA radar (derived from the F-22's APG-77 with F-35 elements), Center Pedestal Display (CPD) cockpit, Auto-GCAS (Automatic Ground Collision Avoidance System — credited with saving more than 12 lives in USAF service since 2014), Link 16 datalink, advanced electronic-warfare suite, and CFTs for an extra 1,000 km of range. The F-16 stays popular because it is relatively cheap (~USD 65 million, a third of an F-35), embedded in the global MRO chain, and proven in every type of combat since 1981. Orders since 2020: Bahrain (16), Slovakia (14), Bulgaria (16), Taiwan (66 aircraft for ~USD 8 billion), Jordan (12), Morocco (24), Argentina (24 used Danish), Philippines (interest), Turkey (40 new + 79 mods, Congressional approval January 2024 as part of the Sweden NATO accession deal). The Lockheed Greenville line has order backlog into 2028+.
