Operating principle

Taurus is the German-Swedish stealth cruise missile from the Taurus Systems JV (MBDA-Saab). Length 5 m, range 500+ km, payload 481 kg MEPHISTO penetrator warhead. Like Storm Shadow, Taurus uses dual-charge tandem warhead architecture, plus a "smart" fuze system that performs pre-programmed "void counting" — the fuze counts the number of floors or bunker layers the missile penetrates and only detonates on the programmed layer. Guidance: INS + GPS + terrain matching + an IIR seeker with scene matching. Political controversy: Germany refused to deliver Taurus to Ukraine in 2023–2025 despite explicit Ukrainian requests; this decision was the central topic of the "Taurus Leak" (intercepted Bundeswehr conference, March 2024). Users: Germany, Spain, South Korea.
