MBDA Mistral / VL MICA

Mistral-3 is a man-portable "fire-and-forget" MANPADS/SHORAD missile with a cooled IIR seeker and passive image processing for target recognition (which makes decoys and flares less effective). Range 6 km, ceiling 3 km. Widely fielded in 30+ countries on tripod launchers, Atlas twin-launchers, MPCV trucks or helicopter launchers. VL MICA is the ground- and naval-launched version of the MICA air-to-air missile, in two seeker variants: MICA-IR (passive dual-color IIR) or MICA-RF (active C-band radar). Range 20 km, ceiling 9 km. Uses cold-launch + thrust-vector boost. Both types fill the Mistral–NASAMS–IRIS-T segment of short- to medium-range air defense in French and NATO doctrine.
