Operating principle

Cheongung-II ("Sky Bow II") is South Korea's answer to Patriot — co-developed with Russian Almaz-Antey input in the 2000s, then "Koreanized" with Israeli Elta radar inputs and local LIG Nex1 missile architecture. A battery has an MFR (multi-function radar) with AESA, a C2 fire control, and four launcher trucks each with eight canisters. The missile uses thrust-vector control and a hit-to-kill warhead against ballistic threats, with an active Ka-band radar seeker in the terminal phase. Range against aircraft ~50 km, ceiling 20 km, ABM range ~20 km, ceiling 20 km. Notable export: Saudi Arabia contract 2024 worth ~USD 3.2 billion (10 batteries), UAE in interest. The ROK uses Block II as the backbone of its own air defense alongside Patriot.
