Diehl IRIS-T SLM / SLS

IRIS-T SLM is the ground-launched variant of Diehl's successful IRIS-T air-to-air missile. As with NASAMS, the philosophy is: take a proven air-to-air missile and deploy it ground-launched with a ground radar and a C2 stack. SLM (Surface Launched Medium-range) has a 40 km range and 20 km ceiling; SLS (Surface Launched Short-range) has a shorter range. The missile uses a cooled dual-color IIR seeker (the black tip on the missile nose), thrust-vector control for extreme agility (60 g+), and a proximity fuze with a fragmentation warhead.
