Operating principle
The KSS-III is the ROK's own design (Hanwha Ocean / HD HHI), 3,358 tons, AIP with PEM fuel cells, 6 VLS cells for Hyunmoo-3 cruise missiles (a unique feature for an SSK!) plus 8 533 mm torpedo tubes. First boat Dosan Ahn Changho commissioned 2021. Indonesia bought 3 boats in 2024 (~USD 2.4 billion); Poland's Orka tender 2024–2025 is in evaluation among KSS-III, Type 212CD and HD HHI-Babcock alternatives.
