Operating principle

The Panzerhaubitze 2000 ("PzH 2000") is a tracked SP 155 mm/52-cal howitzer, built on a Leopard 2-derivative chassis. 55 tons, MTU MT 881 engine (1,000 hp), 60 km/h. Main weapon Rheinmetall L/52 with autoloader (60 rounds in its own ammunition bunker), max fire rate 10 rounds in 60 seconds or 20 rounds in 100 seconds — the highest fire rate of any SP howitzer in production. Multiple Round Simultaneous Impact (MRSI) mode: a single PzH 2000 can fire 5 rounds within 9 seconds at different elevations so they all hit the target simultaneously. Range: ~30 km HE, 40 km BB, 70 km V-LAP. Combat record: Afghanistan (Netherlands used), Ukraine (>20 delivered by Germany and the Netherlands in 2022, >5 lost). Unit price: ~USD 17 million.
