Operating principle

The Arleigh Burke-class DDG is the backbone of US Navy surface forces — in production since 1991, with 73+ ships built. Flight III (Lyndon B. Johnson onwards) has the new SPY-6(V)1 AESA radar, AEGIS Baseline 10, and reinforced hull for future LADAR/laser-arms growth. 9,700 tons, four GE LM2500 gas turbines (CODOG), 30+ knots, Mark 41 VLS with 96 cells (32 forward + 64 aft) for SM-2/3/6, Tomahawk, ASROC. Plus: 5-inch Mark 45 main gun, Phalanx CIWS, dual SH-60 helicopter deck. 380 crew. Not exported — US Navy only. Unit price: ~USD 2.4 billion.
