Iron Beam is Rafael's 100+ kW solid-state laser system, presented as a cost-efficient complement to Iron Dome (not a replacement). The claim is "USD 2 per shot" (electricity only) against short-range rockets, mortars and drones, with unlimited magazine capacity as long as the batteries are charged. First operational deployment announced 2024–2025; physical deployment along the Israeli southern border near Gaza against Hamas mortars and Hezbollah drones. Tactical limitation: rain, fog, and dust drastically reduce effectiveness — Iron Beam does not replace Iron Dome but adds a cost-effective first layer against the smallest targets.
